Job Summary:

The Asphalt Screwman’s primary function is to adjust the screed height on the paving machine to ensure proper depth, grade and finish. The Screed Laborer is also responsible for ensuring the consistency of the asphalt mat and the overall ride quality of the finished pavement. The Asphalt Laborer performs work involving laboring and operating of various simple to complex construction tools and equipment involving the construction, repairing, cleaning and maintenance of sidewalks, curbs, gutters driveways, parking lots, private and public streets and State and Federal highways. Performs traffic control duties; May operate truck and trailer to move equipment from one job site to another.

Apprenticeship Program

West Contracting participates in apprenticeship programs in conjunction with local trade unions as a way to train new employees and offer education for field staff. An apprenticeship provides technical instruction and supervised on-the-job training, coupled with steadily increasing pay.

Many of our supervisors and management personnel started as apprentices in field positions. Graduates of apprenticeship programs have opportunities for rewarding, well-paid careers in the construction industry.

The West Contracting internship program was created to promote interest, expand minds and deliver a hands-on experience, our program offers a variety of internships to students interested in working in the construction industry. Summer internships are offered from May through August. Our internship program is open to college sophomores, juniors, and recent graduates.

  • We offer program content in the areas of project management, risk & safety, human resources, and quality control.
  • Our ideal candidate has a positive can-do attitude and is eager to learn & work in the fast-paced construction industry.
