It’s that time of the year again when you can walk outside and easily see the damage winter has done to your streets. If you’re a trustee, Public Works Director, owner of a private street, etc. then you actually have to do something about it! Once the freeze/thaw cycle ends (usually early April), you can begin to evaluate the damage done. One of our Project Managers would be happy to help you identify areas that need to be fixed, and areas that can be left alone.
Typically when you start to have numerous areas in need of repair, it is a good idea to fix those areas. Typically N.B. West will either saw cut and dig out these areas, or mill them 2″ and tack and patch them back in. Now you may want to consider a surface treatment for the entire road to extend the life of your driving surface.
Chip and Seal is the most cost effective surface to “cap” an existing asphalt or rock road road. The process involves a pressurized spray of a polymer modified emulsion and typically topped with layer of compacted limestone or granite 1/4″ – 3/8″ aggregate. N.B. West can also install and Ultra Thin layer of hot mix asphalt, that combines the newest technology’s in hot mix asphalt, with the hard granite aggregate in a chip seal.
