Hot Mix Asphalt

All of our asphalt plants have on-site quality control laboratories. This allows us to continuously monitor our asphalt production and rapidly respond to our customer’s needs.

Our ability to design our mixes in-house lets us adapt quickly to provide a cost-effective, durable asphalt mixture that meets the most rigorous specifications. Some of the innovations that we have undertaken include the incorporation of Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP), Recycled Asphalt Shingles (RAS), and Warm Mix Asphalt Technology (WMA) in our mix designs. This allows us to keep our costs down, help customers better haul and compact their mixes, and keep unnecessary materials out of our landfills.

Cold Mix Asphalt

Testing Laboratory Headquarters

Our Testing Laboratory Headquarters, located adjacent to our Sullivan asphalt plant, houses the majority of our aggregate testing and mix design equipment.

Built in 2006, this state of the art Testing Laboratory accommodates our ever expanding inventory of mix design and quality control equipment, as well as provides offices for our quality control team and MoDOT partners.

NB West’s laboratories are equipped for all asphalt mix design and testing requirements. The labs participate in the AASHTO Materials Reference Laboratory (AMRL) Proficiency Sample Program. This program allows for the rapid approval of mix designs.

NB West testing laboratories are currently approved for the following programs: Coarse Aggregate, Fine Aggregate, Hot-Mix Ignition Oven, Hot-Mix Marshal Mix Design and Hot-Mix Gyratory Mix Design.
